RiseOverride: Building a Chrome Extension for Articulate Rise Customization

When we set out to build RiseOverride, the eLearning development landscape was dominated by expensive premium tools. Mighty Plugin, while powerful, came with a hefty price tag that put advanced Rise customization out of reach for many educators and small organizations.

The Challenge

Articulate Rise is an excellent authoring tool, but its customization options are limited. Developers and instructional designers needed a way to apply custom CSS and JavaScript to their courses across all output formats—SCORM 1.2/2004, xAPI, Web, AICC, and cmi5.

We believe powerful tools shouldn't be locked behind expensive paywalls. All core functionality of RiseOverride is completely free—there are no limits on the CSS and JavaScript editors, patching, or any essential features. We do offer an optional Pro tier for AI-powered code assistance, which has recurring costs associated with the AI services. However, this is entirely optional, and every feature needed to fully customize your Rise courses remains free forever.

The project represents our philosophy of building tools that serve the community rather than extracting value from it. Sometimes the best business strategy is simply making something useful and giving it away.
